CALUMET COUNTY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Authorities responded to a two vehicle crash involving an off-duty deputy Saturday night.

According to State Patrol, the crash occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on STH 441 east from USH 10.

The report says the two vehicles involved in the crash were a Ram pick-up truck and a VW Golf sedan.

State Patrol say the pick-up truck driver was identified as Jonathan Wesley Cvengros, a 38-year-old off-duty deputy from the Outagamie County Sheriff's Office. The sedan driver was identified as Michael Scott Nicholson, a 31-year-old from Appleton.

Initial reports say the pick-up truck was traveling northbound on STH 441 when the driver missed his exit. According to the report, Cvengros completed a U turn on the highway and traveled southbound in the northbound lanes. The pick-up truck crashed into the northbound sedan head-on.

Police say the off-duty deputy had minor injures, while the sedan driver had critical injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

According to the State Patrol's report, alcohol was not a factor.

Appleton police say they contacted the Wisconsin State Patrol to take over the crash investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation.
