The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has identified the man who died during an officer involved shooting in Kewaunee County this week.

The DOJ has identified the man killed as 22-year-old Tyler D. Whitmire. Deputies say they responded to a 911 call and found a man threatening a woman and nearby people with a knife. One of the deputies who responded shot and killed Whitmire.

An autopsy was conducted by the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

The involved deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation.

The Wisconsin DOJ-led investigation of this incident has been a collaboration between DCI, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory. The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Office has been fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.
