Wisconsin State Patrol is reminding drivers to be careful on the highway, after a man was hit and killed while trying to help another driver.
The State Patrol says a semi driver got behind the wheel after drinking and slammed into another truck driver. The truck driver was walking on the shoulder of Interstate 39 near Wausau on Tuesday.
The victim, 62-year-old Randall Landwehr, was helping a driver change a flat tire. The State Patrol says if you find yourself in a similar situation, there's a safer way to help others.
"We want people to stop and be good Samaritans. However, you should give us a 9-1-1 non-emergency call; we will come out and provide life protection,” said Wisconsin State Patrol Captain Adrian Logan.
Captain Logan also suggests if you must get out of your car on the highway, look carefully look before stepping out, and go to the passengers' side of the vehicle.
The man accused of hitting and killing Landwehr, has not yet been charged. The crash is still under investigation.
