The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay has opened a summer cooling center to protect the public from dangerous heat.

The Green Bay Corps Community Center Chapel at 626 Union Court will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. throughout the summer when the temperature reaches 85 degrees or higher.

"Everyone deserves comfort and a safe place to go during the extreme heat," said Major Steve Merritt, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Temperatures for the next week are expected to be in the upper 80's to mid 90's with the heat index reaching into the triple digits.
