Neenah Police say there were individual events where kids found nails in their Halloween candy back in 2016 and 2017.

Police say there will be more officers on patrol in Neenah for 2018 Halloween. They say they want to send a message to those tainting candy.

"If someone out there thinks it's funny, there are serious consequences to doing these types of things and it won't be tolerated in this community."

Mayor Kaufert says he wants children to have a safe and fun Halloween. He urges parents to thoroughly go through their kids candy to make sure it's safe before they eat it.

The mayor says to look for opened wrappers or candy that looks tampered with. If anything does look suspicious, he says don't hesitate to call police.
