Firefighters were called just before 8 a.m. Saturday for a fire at a duplex in the 1100-block of Marshall Street in the City of Manitowoc.
Smoke and flames could be seen when officials arrived on scene and the fire alarm was working. The fire was put out quickly.
Fire Chief Todd Blaser says the fire was contained to a bedroom in the lower unit. One person escaped from the building. The victim was treated and released fo smoke inhalation.
One person lives in the upper unit of the duplex, but was not home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials want to remind people to make sure cigarettes or other flames are always safely put out and to check that fire alarms are working.
