Omro students, former teachers, and community protest hoping for change in superintendent

Students, former staff and community members protest for a change in the Omro school district, beginning with the superintendent.

This comes after a 7th grade language arts teacher Neil Klosterman didn't have have his contract renewed.

Protesters chanted "save our teachers!"

They're demanding change in the administration of the Omro school district, even wearing red, in honor of Mr. Klosterman, or Mr. K as the students call him.

Neil Klosterman, is a 7th grade middle school instructor, who the kids say is one of the best teachers there.

"He's always been there for me helping and he's been a big role model in my life," said Brett Neidermeir, 7th grader.

Those who came out say Dr. Kelly Reickmann, had a role in getting him out.

"There's been  lot of questionable decisions made by this administration that he has spoken up about it has led us to believe that is what led to his non renewal," said Nicole Neidermeier, Brett's mom, and protester.

Students are upset, he may no longer be available at the school.

"It kinda makes me mad that they would do something to a teacher that cares for a lot of students, and likes all the students," said Brett.

Jeffrey Beem, a protester, said he wants someone in that position, "with compassion instead of intimidation."

There will be a board meeting May 9th.

In an email, Dr. Recikmann said "The protest today is in regards to an individual matter, that is strictly confidential."
