A neighborhood in Manitowoc is on edge after a second shooting in a week. This most recent shooting involves a police officer.
Neighbors say they feel scared after another shooting happened about a mile away from one last week that left two people dead. In a statement, police said they do not believe the two incidents are related.
At around 5 a.m. Sunday, the Manitowoc Fire Department came to an apartment complex because someone pulled the fire alarm. The police say a man who was armed with a blunt object got into an argument with a police officer. The officer shot and killed the man.
Both shootings happened off 35th Street on the east side of Manitowoc. One neighbor said the area is usually pretty quiet, but she is scared another shooting could happen.
“I didn't know what to think, my boyfriend thought maybe someone had passed, that was pretty bad of a situation,” said neighbor Amber Millerduscher. “They didn't let us in our apartment at first then a different cop said we had to go around."
The officer who was involved in the shooting has been place on administrative leave. The DOJ says it’s part of department policy to put a police officer on leave during an investigation.
