GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Overall Brown County does a pretty great job at recycling, but there is one issue the Business Development Manager for Brown County Port and Resource Recovery Department says they deal with all the time and that is plastic bags.

Mark Walter says plastic bags are not curbside recyclable. He says putting those bags in with recyclables ends up causing more problems than good and they end up going to a landfill anyway.

Other items like an empty pizza box was maybe once considered not recyclable is actually recyclable. Walter says they have learned from the several paper mills in our area that they don't have a problem with recycling those pizza boxes as long as they are empty.

Recycling has many benefits the main one being preventing items from being in a landfill. Walter says that just when recycling an aluminum can it takes just 60 days from the time it is left at your curbside to when it able to be recycled and is back on a store shelf.
