Two arrested after apparent gunshot victim who crashed car dies

FOND DU LAC (WGBA 26) — Fond du Lac police are reporting the man who crashed his car Friday morning, who appeared to have a gunshot wound, has died. Two people have been taken into custody in connection with the investigation.

The victim, 39-year-old David Posey of Fond du Lac, was pronounced dead at Theda Care Regional Medical Center early Friday evening February 5, 2021. An autopsy will take place this morning at the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators believe that foul play was involved in this incident but that no further danger to the public exists.

Police say they have taken two people into custody in relation to this investigation, a 30-year-old Fond du Lac man being held on a probation hold and a 29-year-old Fond du Lac woman being held on obstructing charges. Investigators were assisted by the Wisconsin State Crime Lab and Wisconsin State Patrol in searching a residence at 28 5th St. in connection with this incident.

Officers say the investigation is continuing and no further information is being released at this time.
