SHEBOYGAN (NBC 26) -- Sheboygan Police say officers arrested a 13-year-old boy at Farnsworth Middle School after an unloaded firearm was found in his backpack.

Police were initially called to the school Tuesday morning because an administrator had noticed one of the students smelled like marijuana. The boy was taken into custody and police say they found an unloaded firearm in his backpack while searching him.

According to Sheboygan Police, the boy told officers that he had no intentions on using the gun or hurting anyone. There are no reports of the boy making any kind of threats. Police say the boy had stolen the gun from a friend's home.

Police say the boy is now being referred for the charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor, possession of a firearm in a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, and burglary.
