GREEN BAY, Wis — A man convicted of multiple sexual assaults in Milwaukee County was living in Green Bay for just a couple of days before he was taken into custody for violating parole, according to Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith.
Smith said 65-year-old Bruce Brown was apprehended on March 6 by parole and probation officers. Smith said he does not know exactly what violation occurred, but he has reason to believe it was non-criminal in nature.
Court records indicate that Brown, who has several sexual assault convictions on his record, is currently being held at the Brown County Jail.
Just last week Green Bay leaders held a informational meeting where they informed the public that Brown was moving into a home, on the 900 block of Liberty Street. Many residents in attendance were wondering how Brown, a Milwaukee native, could move to Green Bay after serving his time, because sex offenders are supposed to be placed in the county they are originally from.
Even Chief Smith indicated that he is currently working with city leaders to see if there is anything that can be done, to remove the Milwaukee native from Green Bay.
“When I found out that this individual, who was a Milwaukee resident, who committed his crimes in Milwaukee was suddenly being transported to a place at a high risk sex offender house here in Green Bay, it just didn’t make sense… We’re working with our city attorney to see if there is any recourse. We’re working with our elected leaders to see if there is any recourse.”
As of Tuesday evening, Brown is still being held at the Brown County Jail.
