GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Wisconsin's sports heroes will be joining America’s heroes on a special Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
Packers President Mark Murphy was on hand to announce the Flight of Champions Honor Flight.
On October 19th, former players from the Brewers, Bucks and Packers will accompany over 200 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Veterans on a one-day all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor.
A large crowd is expected to welcome the veterans when they return.
"To get that feeling that you've done something right,” Navy veteran Owen Veldboom. “Where back in the day you didn't have that feeling when you came home from the service, but hearing ‘Welcome home’ for the first time from someone who really means it, other than your family, is really great to hear."
Over 7,000 veterans have been able to participate in honor flights to Washington over the last ten years.
