APPLETON (NBC 26) -- Oscar C. Boldt, former head of The Boldt Company, died Tuesday morning at the age of 96. The company states in an email that Oscar Boldt was at the helm of The Boldt Company for more than 50 years.

The company credits Boldt with transforming the family business his grandfather founded in 1889 into one of the nation’s largest construction firms.

The company also notes that Oscar Boldt and his wife Pat were benefactors of countless charitable organizations touching the arts, children, healthcare, education and the environment. He volunteered in leadership roles on the boards of Appleton Medical Center, the Community Foundation for the Fox River Valley and Lawrence University, and was an active member of Appleton Rotary.

Boldt was inducted into the Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame in 2003.

Oscar C. Boldt learned construction under his father, Oscar J. Boldt. After serving as a B-24 navigator in the United States Air Force during World War II, he graduated with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1950, he became the third generation of his family to assume leadership of the company.

Oscar was active in the company up until his death, the company said in a statement. The family is planning a private funeral and a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
