Middleton Police officers, Dane County deputies who shot at office gunman identified

Middleton Police identified the two officers who fired at an active shooter in a Middleton office building earlier this week. 

Officers Richard O’Connor and Tyler Loether fired their weapons at Anthony Tong. Tong was killed in the altercation. 

On Wednesday, Tong started firing at his coworkers at the WTS Paradigm office building in the Madison suburb. 

O'Connor has been with the Middleton Police Department since 1998, and he is a member of the Middleton Police Training Team, he is a state certified firearms instructor and is an Active Shooter Response Trainer and Less Lethal Instructor. 

Loether has been with the MPD since 2012 and he is also a member of the Middleton Police Training Team, as well as the current School Resource Officer at Middleton High School.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed and the District Attorney’s office has made a ruling. 

The Dane County Sheriff’s office also said that Deputy David Lambrecht and Deputy Matthew Earll have also fired their weapons at the Middleton shooter. 

Lambrecht has been with the sheriff’s office for 21 years and is on the traffic team. Earll has been a with the office for 11 years and is assigned to the child support team. 

Both deputies have also been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete and the DA has made a ruling.
