DE PERE, Wis. — NBC26’s Juliana Falk spoke exclusively with three men who helped people get out of their burning building early Wednesday morning.

The cook at McGeorges Pub and two regulars saw smoke and realized the building was on fire. They say they didn't think twice before running over to help.

"Doug had kicked in one of the doors to one of the guys that we know,” says regular Jonathan Korte. “And he was...he wasn't going to wake up, and he said if you guys hadn't kicked the doors in, he would've never got out."

They say once everyone was out and accounted for they realized they knew a lot more people living in there than they thought being a close-knit neighborhood.

The police chief told them the building collapsed 10 minutes after they got out. Those men are just thankful everyone is safe.
