MANITOWOC (NBC 26) -- Manitowoc is moving forward with Independence Day festivities, but this year the city will make accommodations to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The city will hold the fireworks show along the lakefront this year, which the city says will allow plenty of room for social distancing.

Manitowoc will also hold its annual parade. The 4th of July Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on July 4th. The parade route begins at the corner of Washington Street and S. 8th Street, traveling north on 8th Street, turning right onto Maritime Drive, and extends to the Waldo Boulevard office complex before the roundabout.

The parade route was expanded this year so that attendees can socially distance. Candy will not be handed out this year.

Manitowoc says the Festival Foods fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. and are shot off from the South Pier on the lakefront.
