MANITOWOC (NBC 26) -- The City of Manitowoc announced Tuesday that the parade and fireworks celebration for Independence Day will go on as scheduled for this year. Other events, however, have been canceled.

Several summer events in other areas, such as 4th of July celebrations in Door County, have been called off this year due to concerns regarding coronavirus.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Manitowoc, the parade will have an expanded route this year to encourage social distancing for viewers. No candy or pamphlets will be handed out during the parade.

The fireworks show will still be hosted by Festival Foods and will take place at dusk from the south pier, the city says. Viewers of the show are encouraged to watch from a different location this year to socially distance from others.

Other events have been canceled by their respective organizers, the city says, including the Yacht Club party, the Salmon Derby and Subfest. The city also says there will be no bands playing nor games for children this year.

Registration for parade floats can be found here.
