Man dies after head-on crash in Fond du Lac County

TOWN OF BYRON — UPDATE: Fond du Lac Sheriff's Office have identified the two men involved in this crash.

The deceased driver has been identified as 53-year-old Abel Rodriguez of Fond du Lac. The injured driver has been identified as 51-year-old Gary Peters of Theresa.

One man died Thursday morning following a head-on crash in Fond du Lac County, the Sheriff’s Office says.

The Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the crash reported at around 8:14 a.m. on Highway 175 north of Highway Y in the town of Byron. The Sheriff’s Office says one vehicle, driven by a 53-year-old Fond du Lac man, was traveling southbound on Highway 175 when it crossed the center line and hit a northbound truck, driven by a 51-year-old Theresa man, pulling a trailer.

The Sheriff’s Office says the 53-year-old Fond du Lac man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 51-year-old Theresa man was flown to a hospital for serious injuries. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 53-year-old man was wearing a seat belt, but the 51-year-old man was not.

The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
