FOX CITIES (NBC 26) – Victims of the Trestle Trail Bridge shooting in 2015 were honored Saturday across northeast Wisconsin. It’s part of an effort to promote the locally recognized and celebrated Random Acts of Kindness Day.

The shooting happened on the Trestle Trail Bridge on May 3rd, 2015. Three people were killed and several injured when a gunman opened fire that Sunday evening. Among those killed was Jon Stoeffel at age 33 and his daughter Olivia Stoeffel at age 11.

Olivia’s mother, Erin Stoeffel, started the locally celebrated holiday in memory of her daughter. She said this year is very special, as Olivia would have celebrated her ‘sweet 16' this December 7th.

To commemorate the day, Erin is encouraging others to do a random act of kindness. She said no act is too small or too big.

A Facebook group called Olivia’s Heart provides printouts of kindness cards. They’re meant to be given out when you do a random act of kindness.

Some people say they’ve seen the group's kindness cards through flowers, gift cards, and pocket change on parking meters.
