ASHWAUBENON — High school football players from nine different schools around the state got the chance to play at the Packers practice facility.

The NFL's Nike 11-On Initiative in conjunction with the Green Bay Packers football outreach program hosted the event at the Don Huston Center.

Participating schools included Eau Claire Memorial, Greendale, Kimberly, Lake Mills, Menomonie, Sun Prairie, Waunakee, and West De Pere.

The tournament included a seven-on-seven event, a lineman challenge, and various other combine events such as a speed event.

Ryan Fencl is the manager of the Packers football outreach initiative. He said that the event is a unique partnership with area schools.

"It's amazing that we're able to come out here and be able to actually have these high schoolers playing here where the players practice," said Fencl.

While the event is an opportunity to promote high school football talent from around the region, it's also an early chance for teams to improve before the season begins in six weeks.

At the end of the tournament, the points from each event were added up for a championship ceremony.

Last years defending champions, Greendale, were on hand to attempt to defend their title.

For West De Pere head coach Chris Greisen, the event helped to get his team get on the same page ahead of the regular season.

"I think competitions like this are great because it builds team camaraderie. You see what you can do, what you can't do, some adjustments kids could make, it really just builds confidence with them," said Greisen.
