OCONTO (NBC 26) -- An ice jam on the Oconto River has created a flood emergency for the city of Oconto.

Late Monday night, the ice jam which formed under a bridge forced several feet of water into city streets. On Tuesday, many of those streets were closed.

Those who are stranded in their homes are being told to stay put and drivers are advised to stay off city roads until the floodwaters recede. The city administrator tells NBC 26 that it could take a couple days.

"Are you kidding? I can barely get out of my driveway. I am afraid I am going to get stuck,” said Susan Groll. “I mean all it takes is one wrong turn and you’re going to get stuck."

Police and fire crews continue to patrol the area. So far, no evacuations have been ordered.
