KOHLER (NBC 26) — Police said they were involved in a high speed chase which ended with the suspect's vehicle rolling over Sunday just after 10 a.m.
Kohler Police Department said an officer attempted a traffic stop for a driver speeding on County Highway A south of County Highway PP in the Village of Kohler.
According to the police report, the vehicle continued on for some time with no change in driving behavior as the officer followed with both lights and siren activated. The vehicle started to pull over just inside Sheboygan Falls when the driver suddenly accelerated rapidly and fled.
The officer said a pursuit was called as the driver was going 80 MPH in a 25 MPH zone, driving though private property causing damage, and failing to stop at several stop signs within the city.
Law enforcement reported the vehicle re-entered the Village of Kohler still traveling at dangerous speeds and failing to stop at stop signs. The driver was headed eastbound on Greenfield Drive at Highland Drive when he failed to negotiate the turn, causing a rollover crash.
Police identified the driver as a 44-year-old Sheboygan man. He was taken to the hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The man was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Kohler police said the man has been charged with a felony for eluding police as well as several traffic violations including Operating While Intoxicated (first offense), Open Intoxicant, Operating Without a License, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Damage of Property, Speeding and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
