GRAND CHUTE (NBC 26) -- Grand Chute Fire Department remind people to keep fireplaces or wood burning stoves clean and clear between uses to prevent buildup of a flammable substance.
The Departments says it's easy to forget cold weather is yet to come when we have slightly warm weather patches. But, chances are you will still need to use your fireplace or wood burning stove before winter ends.
If your chimney is not regularly cleaned, this can lead to a build-up of an extremely flammable substance called creosote, says the Department.
Grand Chute Fire Department recommends having your chimney professionally cleaned and inspected annually. This can help in preventing a chimney fire. Plus they remind people to check their smoke alarms for additional safety.
