APPLETON (NBC 26) — Law enforcement are warning people of an old scam that has resurfaced in the Fox Valley involving fake gold.
The Appleton Police Department said the scam begins with someone asking for money so they can buy gas to get home. Once they are denied the money, they offer to sell a gold piece of jewelry they are wearing; for example a gold necklace, ring, or bracelet.
Officers said a lot of the gold pieces have had an 18K stamp on them, but when verified it is not gold.
Police ask everyone to use caution and report any suspicious activity to your local law enforcement agency.
The Appleton Police Department posted photo examples of the fake gold which were provided to them by a local business.
