DE PERE (NBC 26) - With many businesses and schools shutdown, farmers now have to worry about what to do with their extra product.

Governor Evers recently issued an emergency order to help with possible excess milk; meaning if farmers don't have anywhere to put their supply, they can dump it. The rule suspends certain requirements for small and medium farms. Local farmers say it's a safety net for the industry as we move forward.

"I'm not really concerned we're going to need to dump milk," said Dan Diederich, a farmer in De Pere. "If there's a lot of plans that end up getting workers infected and they have to shut down, we need to have somewhere to go with this milk. We just can't turn off a cow. They're going to keep making milk and we need to have a plan in place, so it's the prudent thing to do."

Diederich adds he hasn't heard of anyone in our area having to dump milk. He said they'll continue to take care of the animals as we work our way through this.
