Avery's lawyer responds to state's opposition to a new trial

MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wis. — Steven Avery's attorney has filed new court documents which dispute the state's argument that he doesn't deserve a new trial.

Avery was convicted in 2007 of murdering Teresa Halbach in Manitowoc County. The murder was documented in the popular Netflix series, Making a Murderer.

Avery's legal team has filed new motions in court asking for a new trial, arguing the State of Wisconsin violated Avery's rights when it handed bone evidence over to Teresa Halbach's family and didn't notify Avery's legal counsel.

Earlier this month, Wisconsin's Attorney General Josh Kaul, argued that Steven Avery's motion for a new trial should be denied for various reasons.
