GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice is identifying the people involved in a deadly police shooting that happened Saturday.

According to the DOJ, Green Bay Police responded May 9 to a report of shots fired on the 2800 block of University Avenue. When officers arrived, the DOJ said they saw 42-year-old Elder Melgar fire a gun at another person.

The DOJ said two officers, Officer Roman J. Trimberger and Officer Nicholas J. Walvort, discharged their weapons toward Melgar, who died from his injuries at the scene.

Another person, identified as 34-year-old Manuel Hernandez, was arrested after the incident and is being held in the Brown County Jail with criminal charges pending, the DOJ says.

No one else, including law enforcement, was injured in this incident. The DOJ said the two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. The DOJ said Trimberger has five years of law enforcement experience, while Walvort has seven years of law enforcement experience.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
