Parking in Appleton? You can leave your change at home!
The city unveiled a new mobile parking app Tuesday that lets you pay by phone for metered parking downtown.
Appleton partnered with Passport Parking to provide the smartphone app. It is available on both Apple and Android devices.
“This is something we know downtown visitors have been asking for and we’re really excited to launch this technology in Appleton,” said Mayor Tim Hanna.
You can pay with a debit or credit card through the app for all of the almost 1,000 metered parking spaces across downtown.
The app lets you extend parking remotely, and you can receive notifications when your time is about to expire.
The meters will still accept coins for those who prefer to use that method.
This is the latest implementation of a recommendation from a downtown parking study done in 2015, the city said.
Other changes included converting parking ramps to pay-on-exit with rates based on hours parked instead of a flat rate, providing longer hours of on-street parking at a reduced rate north of Washington Street and reducing enforcement on on-street metered parking hours to 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
