A chemical incident Friday evening at a pool in Marinette resulted in 23 people, including 15 children, being taken to the hospital, authorities said.

A power outage at the Marinette Civic Center pool, 2000 Alice Lane, led the pool's pump to fail, which resulted in a chemical build-up inside the pool, authorities said.

The victims suffered chest tightness and difficulty breathing, authorities said.

No one was in serious condition, authorities said.

As of 9:30 p.m. the incident was cleared, according to Kathy Frank, Marinette County Emergency Management Program Assistant/Public Information Officer.

"Scary still, but not as bad as it could have been," Frank said.

The pool will be inspected Saturday morning.
