A former piano teacher and Howard village trustee was sentenced to more than a decade in prison Tuesday for sexually assaulting a student.
In September, a jury found James R. Widiger, 64, guilty of two counts of repeated sexual assault of the same child. He was acquitted of two other charges.
Widiger was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 10 years extended supervision Tuesday in Brown County court.
The victim and her parents gave emotional testimony against Widiger at his sentencing.
"My description for him is a monster," said the victim's mother. "Shame on him for doing this to her. Shame on him for thinking he could get away with doing this."
According to court documents, the victim told police Widiger would touch her inappropriately during piano lessons. The assaults happened when she was around 13 years old, court documents said.
The assaults happened at the former Henri's Music and Piano Galleries Building and Jim's Music, both in Green Bay, according to court documents.
