Wisconsin hits new COVID-19 case record

Wisconsin saw an increase of 978 new COVID-19 cases Saturday afternoon, breaking the state's previous record from Tuesday.

The state Department of Health Services (DHS) said the state's current number is 41,485 people who have tested positive for the virus. Friday, Wisconsin surpassed 40,000 coronavirus cases.

According to the DHS, about 77% of people who tested positive are labeled as "recovered." There is an estimated 8,633 cases still active across the state.

Hospitalizations increased by 51, bringing the state total to 4,082. About 8 percent of tests are coming back positive.

Health officials report 10 more deaths in relation to the virus, bringing the state total to 843. Approximately 2% of people in Wisconsin have died in connection to the virus.
