Bicycle crash during Race the Lake sends four to the hosptial

TAYCHEEDAH, Wis. - A sergeant with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office says about 30 bicyclists crashed during Race the Lake in the Town of Taycheedah around 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, sending four people to the hospital.

Deputies say none of those injuries are life threatening. Others injured in the crash refused care, with minor scrapes and bruises.

The riders were going about 40 mph on a downhill slope when one of the cyclists clipped another, causing a pile-up, according to the FDLCSO. The crash happened on County WH near McCabe road.

Deputies shut down the road and organizers suspended the race as they cleaned up. By about 10:30 a.m. the race started back up and law enforcement opened up the roadway.

This is the 11th Annual Race the Lake, which takes cyclists around Lake Winnebago.
