Appleton American Legion provides reminder of flag etiquette

As the weather warms up and Independence Day nears, the Appleton American Legion Post No. 38 is reminding people of proper flag etiquette and respect.

Check your flag for discoloration, frays and tears before displaying them.

Flags that need to be retired can be dropped off 24-hours a day by the front door of the Appleton American Legion Post No. 38 at 3220 West College Avenue in Appleton.

They host formal and informal flag retirement ceremonies on their grounds throughout the year as needed.

Appleton American Legion Post No. 38 also wants to remind neighbors that during functions like the Appleton Flag Day Parade and Independence Day parades, it is proper respect for civilians to stop and stand in silence, remove their hat and place their right hand over their heart when the U.S. flag is presented.

You can find more information on flag etiquette at the Post No. 38 website here.
