Steven Avery's lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, has filed a more than 1,000 page post-conviction petition in Manitowoc County, according to the Clerk of Court.

Zellner's former client Ryan Ferguson was the first to tweet the information Wednesday.

Avery is serving a life sentence for the murder of Theresa Halbach in 2005.

Zellner makes several claims suggesting Avery's innocence and the mishandling of the case by Ken Kratz, the former District Attorney.

One of the claims made in the court documents was that a new brain wave test conducted on Avery suggests he does not know certain, specific details of Halbach's death. That test is said to be 99.9% accurate.

Another claim in the document was that new scientific evidence suggests the bullet found by police, that the state argued killed Halbach, never passed through her skull like they originally said when Avery was convicted.

Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey are the subjects of the Netflix documentary "Making a Murderer," which thrust the case into the national spotlight.

NBC26 is continuing to comb through the document and will update this story as we learn more.
