Despite police attempts to keep people from attending the spring Oshkosh Pub Crawl, UW-Oshkosh students and community members plan to take part in Saturday's annual event.

The UW-Oshkosh Police Department teamed up with the city of Oshkosh Police Department to produce a video to try and deter people from attending the pub crawl, which has become increasingly difficult to manage, according to police.

However, those in Oshkosh who are fans of the event said the video only made people want to attend more.

"I have no problem with [the police] being there, I actually think them being around is for the best," said UW-Oshkosh alumn Daniel Gartzke. "It's just when they start trying to convince people to not go and not do something that I think it is overstepping their bounds a little bit."

With people still planning to take part in the crawl, police remind them they'll be out.

"We'll be out in the neighborhoods, but our main focus is the campus, the University campus," said UW-Oshkosh Police Chief Kurt Leibold. "Our focus is always on safety."

The University will close four parking lots during the crawl Saturday. All others will be open only to those with permits. Any cars parked in the lots could be towed.

"It was determined that some of the lots were causing problems because it was a place for congregating and drinking," Leibold explained.

Leibold and his staff will continue to work with the Oshkosh Police Department to keep people safe and respond to incidents.

If a permit is needed to park in University lots on Saturday, contact the UW-Oshkosh Police.
