President Trump spent Memorial Day paying tribute to America's fallen service members at Arlington National Cemetery.

But while most Americans had the day off work, the White House was working to battle new allegations related to Russia and sooth strained relationships with allies.

In his memorial day speech, President Trump singled out three men who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan: Christopher Horton, Andrew Byers and Robert Kelly, the son of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.

"The Kelly family represents military families who carry the burden of freedom on their shoulders," said President Trump.

Secretary Kelly himself made headlines this weekend, downplaying the significance of Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner looking to open a backchannel line of communication with Russia during the transition.

Democrats want Kushner's security clearance pulled, but Kelly things it's fine.

"It's both normal in my opinion and acceptable. any way that you can communicate with people, particularly organizations that are maybe not particularly friendly to us is a good thing," said John Kelly.

Russia is far from the President's only problem. North Korea launched a short range missile that landed within 250 miles of the Japanese coast.

President Trump responded on Twitter, writing, "North Korea has shown great disrespect for their neighbor, China, by shooting off yet another ballistic missile...but China is trying hard!"

The President is relying on China to reign in North Korea. This, while US allies may be thinking twice about relying on Washington.

"The times when we could completely rely on others are, to an extent, over," said German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
