Thousands of people are flocking back to the stores on this day after Christmas. Many of them are hoping to capitalize on after Christmas sales, make returns, use gift cards or just pick up the gifts that didn't make it under the tree.

The shopping activity the day after Christmas even rivals that of Black Friday as the busiest shopping day of the year.

There seems to be a term for all the pre-Christmas sales. There's Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and of course the ever growing popular Cyber Monday. But the day after Christmas deals, there hasn't been a term given for that day just yet. All the same, people have been capitalizing on the discounts of the special sale day for years.

The lots are filling up at retailers across Ashwaubenon.  Stores are getting slammed with people that are trying to capitalize on discounts that just weren't as sweet, a few days ago.

"At Bath and Body we get a lot of good deals. 75 percent off which is really a good deal to stock up for the year," says Hope King of Wausau.

"My wife bought a pair of jeans for 58 cents. She's quite proud of that. So I’m guessing she saved at least 50 bucks," says Jim Margetta.

An American Express survey found that the average shopper today, may even dish out more than on Black Friday. That survey estimates that shoppers will spend about 190 dollars each the day after Christmas.

"I would say hundreds," adds King.

For Hope King and her husband and so many others, this is the post-Christmas tradition.

"We take care of the kids at Christmas and then we go and shop for ourselves and get all the deals," adds King.

"We do it every year. It's a big deal," adds Margetta.

And retailers have come to expect the foot traffic too.

"Things you were looking at that might have been 30-40 percent off on Christmas Eve are probably 50-70-75 percent off today," says Ashwaubenon Shopko Store Manager Dale Adams.

As stores slash prices to get rid of their excess they notice that this after Christmas rush is growing in popularity.

"Actually it's a little busier than it was last year at the same time the day after Christmas," adds Adams.

So as you contemplate when to use that gift card you got or wonder when the best time to return that wrong size Christmas sweater is. Consider sooner rather than later, because many of the best deals just won't last.

One of the hottest sellers the next few days will be on Christmas lights, ornaments, wrapping paper and of course fake trees. Most of those items you'll find some of the biggest deals of the season.
