A ten year old cold case murder may be on the verge of being solved. The Appleton Police Department reports investigators are looking into a person of interest in the Connie Boelter case.
Boelter's body was discovered in her home in November of 2006. She had received a blow to the head and since then, a reward has been established and her family created a website, seeking information about who may have committed the crime.
Appleton police held a news conference on Monday afternoon to discuss the case after a USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin report showed officers were looking into a 'suspect' who reportedly worked with Boelter at the Wolf River Community Bank during the time of the murder.
Here is the statement released by the Appleton Police Department:
On November 15, 2006, Connie Boelter did not show up for work at the Wolf River Community Bank in Hortonville. She had worked there several years as a loan processor. This was highly unusual for Connie, who we have learned was a well-liked and dedicated employee.
A co-worker contacted a family member of Connie's who went to check on her and found her dead in her residence. Connie's death was ruled a homicide. Since November 15, 2006, the Appleton Police Department has actively investigated this case, treating Connie's murder as our top priority.
Today, we are not be able to release any specific additional details on the investigation. However, we feel it is important to confirm the report published yesterday is accurate; as it is based on information filed with the Clerk of Court’s Office. We also want to make it very clear this is only a portion of the evidence we have gathered. There are other parts to the investigation we will not be able to release at this time. It is our priority to protect the integrity of the investigation and future prosecution.
We have not referred any charges at this time, but we can confirm a person of interest has been developed during the course of our investigation.
Teams of investigators and specialists, both locally and nationally, have been working on this case for over 9 years. We will continue to put all the resources we need into gathering the evidence needed to hold Connie's murderer accountable.
Throughout our investigation, we have been working closely with the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office. We will continue to work with them as this case moves forward.
The Appleton Police Department thanks Connie's family for their patience and ongoing support. They have shown amazing strength; going through a nightmare no one should have to experience. It is clear Connie's inner strength and commitment to family lives on through them.
Connie was a very compassionate and caring person. Her life revolved around her children, family and grandchildren. She was a dedicated employee and friend; a quiet person who lived a very peaceful life, until the day of her tragic death.
As we have done since her death, we will continue to seek any and all leads in the pursuit of justice for Connie.
