Friday's championship night at Luxemburg Speedway was not just about crowning winners.
"As a racing community, we're a big family and we look out for each other," said Eric Mahlik, one of the track promoters at Luxemburg Speedway.
It was about remembering a part of that family and honoring his memory. Matt Schuh, 27, died tragically on Wednesday from a medical issue while he raced in Manitowoc.
"He was a great person," said Nathan Lauscher, a friend of Matt's. "He lived every day like it was going to be his last. He lived life to the fullest."
All the proceeds from Friday's 50/50 raffle at Luxemburg Speedway went to Schuh's family, along with money raised through a donation table.
"We're here to raise money for his family to give back to him," said Ron Cochrane, also a promoter at Luxemburg Speedway.
Many others in the racing community doing what they can to help Schuh's family, especially his daughter.
"Guys are auctioning off body panels to start a fund for his daughter," explained Lauscher. "It's just completely amazing."
In a powerful moment Friday night, drivers did a memorial lap around the track in Luxemburg in honor of Schuh, all while they and fans held up his number, one. The racing community honoring a man they say was one of a kind.
