The driver left the scene, but was found a short time later because of evidence at the scene, witness information and an anonymous tip.

"We had an anonymous report indicating the person involved might be at different address in Menasha, officers were able to follow up with that, find the vehicle that had consistent damage with having struck the child," said Capt. Brett Halderson with Menasha Police.

The man was found passed out in an apartment on the 900 block of of Sixth Street, police said.

The police department has recommended the following charges against the Appleton man:

  • Causing injury when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (2nd offense)
  • Operating after revocation
  • Possession of marijuana (2nd offense)

The child was taken to the hospital and received 17 stitches. He has been released.
