There will be an increased police presence at Oconto Middle School Monday after police say an online threat was made through social media.

The Oconto Unified School District says that on Sunday night, school and district administrators were made aware of a student threat on social media.

Police were then involved and remained in contact with the school. The threat was not determined to be credible, but the district and police are taking steps to make sure that staff and students are safe.

The district says there will be a 'heightened awareness and presence' at the middle school Monday.

Here is the full statement from the district,

"Last night, school and district administration was made aware of a student threat made through social media. The police were involved and remained in communication with the school throughout their process. The threat was deemed not to be credible, however the district and the police are taking steps to ensure the safety of staff and students through heightened awareness and presence.

The police are confident there is no threat and will be present at the middle school this morning. The district takes student safety very seriously and will take the necessary steps ensure safety is maintained."
