It was a different kind of call for the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.

"Firemen like to help, anytime there's a need, and somebody calls and needs help, the firemen show up," said Chad Decker.

But he wasn't referring to an emergency. He was talking about a special delivery to the Salvation Army.

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department showed up at Shopko Hall in Santa's big red fire truck Tuesday, delivering their donations gathered from the Gifts for Teens drive.

NBC26 teamed up with the Fire Department for that drive, and helped deliver the gifts.

"To be able to fill this entire table and then some, just really says a lot about the community that we live in and how excited we are to be a part of it," Decker said.

Thanks to the community's generosity, the Fire Department gathered over 700 gifts, the most in the history of the drive.

"That's 700 smiles on Christmas morning because of it, and we are just so overwhelmed and grateful," said Kathryn Kroll with the Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay.

For those families with teenagers, seeing these gifts is a relief.

"As if the Fire Department doesn't already do enough for our community, sacrificing every day for us, now they come and answer the call," Kroll said.

Families will visit Shopko Hall in Ashwaubenon Tuesday and Wednesday to pick up gifts for loved ones for Christmas.
