The Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit has arrested five people on heroin and meth related charges, including one man they believe is responsible for $135,000-$200,000 of heroin sales in Manitowoc County over the course of a year.

The five suspects, three men and two women, were arrested after a lengthy heroin distribution investigation.

Four of the five people were charged in Manitowoc County court Thursday with various heroin and meth related offenses: Darryl Reynolds, 58, Claurice Smith, 47, Jeffrey Truettner, 50, and Myron Pieschel, 59. One 48-year-old woman did not appear in court.

Darryl Reynolds is the man police believe is behind those heroin sales in Manitowoc County. He is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

The investigation involved a substantial amount of heroin being distributed from Rockford, Illinois to Manitowoc County, said. Lt. Dave Remiker with the Metro Drug Unit.

Investigators conducted multiple controlled purchases of heroin during a four month period in Manitowoc and Rockford, Illinois.  Search warrants were conducted at residences in the 4200 block of Ray Street and the 2100 block of S. 21st Street in Manitowoc, Lt. Remiker said.

Investigators arranged for the purchase of $2,500 worth of heroin in Manitowoc, and Darryl Reynolds and Claurice Smith were taken into custody after a short pursuit on S. 21st St., according to police.

Investigators then found additional heroin and cocaine in the vehicle, Lt. Remiker said.

The search warrant on Ray Street resulted in the arrest of Jeffrey Truettner, 50, after investigators located methamphetamine on him.

The search warrant on South 21st St. resulted in the arrest of Myron Pieschel for heroin conspiracy distribution charges.  A 48-year-old female subject was taken into custody on probation violation related charges, but has not been charged yet.

Additional arrests will be made in the heroin distribution conspiracy, said Lt. Remiker.

All subjects were transported to the Manitowoc County Jail and held on various charges including Conspiracy to Deliver Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Cocaine and Delivery of Heroin.

The Metro Drug Unit was assisted by the Manitowoc Sheriff’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Manitowoc Police Dept. and Manitowoc County Special Operations Squad.
