VILLAGE OF HOWARD, Wis.-- Brown County Sheriff's deputies say alcohol and speed could be factors in a crash that killed two men Sunday night.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of Memorial Drive.

Witnesses say the car was headed south when it didn't negotiate a curve and crossed over the northbound lane.

The car then went over a guardrail and dropped 30 feet into the Beaver Dam Creek below.

Deputies say the car was filled with water on the passenger side when they arrived.

Inside the car were a 21-year-old Ashwaubenon man and a 24-year-old Green Bay man.

Sheriff's deputies say that "several heroic lifesaving efforts were performed in waist deep ice water by Deputies of Brown County, fireman from Howard FD and Rescue persons from County Rescue."

Jaws of Life was also used to extricate the men.

Deputies say the men were pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The men were wearing their seatbelts. Deputies say there's evidence of speed and alcohol use and they may be factors.

Names are not being released at this time.

Memorial Drive was closed until about 1 a.m. Monday.

The crash is still under investigation.
