ABRAMS (AP) -- Sheriff's officials have searched a golf course in Oconto County as they look for a man who exchanged gunfire with a deputy.

Oconto County Sheriff Michael Jansen says the search of Pine Acres Golf Course in Abrams Tuesday morning hasn't turned up anything.

At about 1:30 a.m. a deputy was checking a business in Abrams that had been burglarized recently and encountered a man. Jansen says the deputy asked the man to stop, but he took off running, then turned and fired at the officer. The deputy was not hit and returned fire.

Oconto Falls School District officials decided to cancel classes at nearby Abrams Elementary Tuesday because the search for the suspect was ongoing.
