OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- If you're looking for a great Wisconsin dog or footlong with bacon sauce and cheese curds, Hotdog Charlie's in Oshkosh is the place to go.
"I started out with a hotdog cart here on main street. I was one of the very first guys to do it," owner Charles Nichols said. "After 2 years of that I had a chance to open the restaurant and we've been in the restaurant ever since. Business is normally good, right now maybe not so good, but we've been growing slow and steady. We do gourmet hotdogs, and I enjoy what I do."
You can customize your dog by making it a classic chili dog with cheese, or make it more unique by adding bacon sauce!
"I invented bacon sauce when I started out with the cart, nobody else has that," Nichols explained. "If you like bacon, it's a little slice of heaven. And that really really took off. So we put the bacon sauce on the dog, with real shredded cheese, toast it with a creme brulé torch. From there, now people ask for it on everything. People get it on their fries, tater tots, cheese curds, you name it."
Nichols says that he is seeing everyone seem to pull together and try to get through this, doing the best they can.
"We're all going through the same thing, but we're all pulling for each other," Nichols said. "We're hoping that this turns out really good, and I think it is going to be good, it's just going to be a matter of time. We just gotta our heads high. So come on, give us a shot. I really appreciate it, and lets all get through this together."
