After making it to the state boys basketball championship game for a third consecutive year, Xavier proved the rule that the third time is the charm by hoisting the gold ball a week and a half ago.  Wednesday the Hawks shared their accomplishment at the school.

The team was recognized in front of a packed house of friends, family and community members.  Xavier finished the season as the only team in the state with a perfect 28-0 record and they won the schools first WIAA state championship in hoops by taking down Prescott in the D3 title game.

The team received proclamations from the city and county and several people spoke to the crowd about what the championship means to both the school and to the area.

Junior Hunter Plamann explained, "It's been pretty fun because of all the support from the community and everyone just supporting us and actually winning this year's been pretty cool, so it's pretty fun."

"You know you don't really realize it until you get back in the community of Xavier and it's just amazing to know how many people actually watch our games, show their support, follow along on social media," added Junior Nate DeYoung.

Coach Matt Klarner had the chance to tell the audience what his players mean to him.  "I certainly love each and every one of these guys on the team and I appreciate all the work that they do.  It is a really neat environment to be able to share with the community how hard these guys work and what great kids we have in our program."
