The Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) Presidents laid down the law, 12-2, against California Lutheran University at Fox Cities Stadium in the first of a best-of-three series for the DIII Baseball National Championship.
Striking early and often with runs in four of the first five innings, the Presidents ran away with a 7-0 lead. Four runs came from Presidents DH Kevin Begley, who went 3-for-4. CF Ryan Sciullo was 2-for-3, notching a double, a triple and 2 RBI. SS Nick Gatins also got in on the fun with 3 RBI.
The Presidents are a game away from the program's first national title. Game two begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with a third game, if necessary, afterwards.
