The WIAA State Track & Field Championships began early Friday morning in La Crosse. Bay Port senior Cole Van Lanen reprised his roll as the top D1 shot putter in Wisconsin. Van Lanen took home gold with a throw of 59 feet, 10.75 inches just edging out Logan McCormick of Kimberly.
In the D1 girls pole vault, the top four finishers are all from Northeast Wisconsin. Kylie Swiekatowski set a new state record going over the bar at 12 feet, 7 inches. Her teammate Grace Kowalkowski took home silver.
